The mites and squirts summer clinics will focus on the
fundamentals of skating and basic hockey skills. Each
clinic will incorporate some full ice skating drills to
improve skating stride, edges, transitions, stopping and
overall balance.
We will also work on skating and all other hockey skills in
rotating stations so players can be grouped by ability to
accommodate different ages and skill levels and guarantee
everyone is challenged.
“The summer clinics are a great opportunity to work on
essential skills needed to become a great skater,” Peak
Performance co-owner Eric Short said. “The staff is focused
on establishing a fun learning environment that will
encourage the players to continuously challenge themselves.”
Every clinic will also end with a fun game or relay race
that ties together the skills we worked on that hour, and at
the same time ends the session with a fun activity that
makes them look forward to coming back the next week.
“The kids really enjoy going to the rink during the summer,”
Short said. “Many of the players develop more skills during
the summer clinics than they do throughout their entire
winter season.”
The peewee and bantam summer clinics will follow the same
structure as the mites/squirts clinics but will also include
instruction and drills on body positioning. We will
use many of the same high-tempo drills that are used with
the local high school programs.
" I think the summer skills program is a must for kids
because it’s fun and a great way to improve your game,”
Fitchburg State University coach Dean Fuller said. “I look
forward to having a chance to help younger players enjoy the
game through improving skills.”
The series of clinics will be specifically designed to work
on all of the skills necessary to be successful at the high
school level.
We encourage all goalies in these clinics. We will work with
them individually on their angles, position, skating and
other goalie specific skills. |
